This practical joke object is Clayton Bailey's way of disrupting the peace at art museums or gallery openings. Irregular pieces of tempered aluminum are painted to look like fragments of decorated porcelain pottery or sculpture; (possibly a Jim Melchert or Robert Hudson ceramic sculpture?) When dropped on the floor, it sounds like a large, valuable, ceramic object was dropped and broken. Sometimes Bailey puts them in a box, and just as he is about to show "the treasure from his great grandmother's china collection", (which she carried here by hand during World War II), the pieces drop from the bottom of the box, and crash to the floor to the shock and dismay of all the "victims" in the vicinity.
