TOBACCO SPIT POTTERY
 1987 TO 1998

The Tobacco Spit pottery of Clayton Bailey was made between 1987-1998. Tobacco spit glaze originated long ago among American folk potters. When the glaze is fired, it runs down the sides of the pot in golden brown rivulets that earn the glaze its name. Baileys jugs were inspired by traditional salt glazed American pottery. The jugs are beautifully formed, and often outlandish in scale; (some are thirty to fifty gallons in size.) They are labeled as containing Mustache Oil, Unobtainium, Claytonium, or Snake Oil.
